He Started

Today was his first day.

His excitement was contagious. Last night he awoke at 9:30 p.m. and told Ryan, "I'm ready. I'm ready to get on the bus and go to school."

And he was...he is ready, but wasn't this just yesterday?

He'll go 5 days a week for 3 hours a day. It will be good. It will be good. It will be good is my mantra.

I want to protect him. I don't ever want kids to make fun of him. I want him to know how incredible he is.

It's hard for this mama heart to let go, but it will be good. It will be good. It will be good.

Look at his beautiful happy face, I wanna hug him.
Your quote "I want to protect him. I don't ever want kids to make fun of him. I want him to know how incredible he is."
I just said these exact words in ICU three days ago, I am crying now.
Don't you worry our beautiful children will win the hearts of many and they will make beautiful friendships.
Hugs to you.

Back in high school we had a girl who needed to use a walker to get around. Our school wasn't ADA accessible (it was Egypt), so whoever came upon her at the bottom or top of the stairs would grab her bag and hold her hand as she climbed. Someone else would inevitably come by after them and carry up her walker. No questions. No strange looks. This was a fact of life at CAC, and I was too young to see the beauty in how fantastically this was always handled.

Sylas must be super excited. Be prepared for a full afternoon/night of talking about every second of today. And enjoy it.

So excited for Sylas! One of my best friends until I moved after 8th grade had cerebral palsy and used a walker. She was an amazing and fun girl and had tons of friends. Don't worry mama!
