The View From Here

Ivy has goopy eyes and a runny nose. It's very sad, so I'm making her favorite for dinner.

Lentil Stew.

Or as Sylas likes to call it...

Money Soup.

What's on your plate?

2 tbsp. olive oil
1 chopped onion
3 cloves minced garlic
3-4 sliced carrots
2 stalks chopped celery
5 whole sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
A 6 oz. can of tomato paste
72-80 oz. vegetable broth*
1 lb. dry lentils
A 14 oz. can diced tomatoes with their juices
2 tsp. fresh oregano/1 tsp. dried
1 tbsp. fresh basil/1/2 tbsp. dried
1 tsp. kosher salt
1 tsp. pepper

Saute onions in the olive oil over medium heat, add the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil. Turn down heat and simmer, uncovered for about an hour and half stirring occasionally.

ENJOY! Ivy sure does!

*It's cheapest to make your own veggie broth, but if that's not your thing, Trader Joes has a fairly inexpensive organic veggie broth.

P.S. This makes a HUGE pot. We always have leftovers and enough to freeze for another meal.

  1. love her leggings...she is too cute for words! Get better soon Ivy!

  2. baby's plate includes baby chili (made with chicken broth instead of tomatoes) - our 11 month old is also sick - with a UTI and a fever that simply will not break.

  3. Poor little girl - hope she's on the mend soon!

Have I mentioned what a beautiful writer you are? Your words take my breath away every time. Thanks for sharing your heart.

Also, when Ivy is feeling better, would you like to do a museum trip? We'd LOVE to!

  4. can u post your lentil soup recipe or email. I have some lentil and need to find something good to make with it. my email address is

    Nicole from Rosemead, CA

  5. I would love the recipe too. I have never tried lentils before

  6. I would love the lentil soup recipe too as I love lentils but need more applications for them.

I hope she feels better soon!

  7. hope she is feeling better! on my plate...2 busy girls and we went out for dinner...had a breakfast dinner! yummy!

  8. Homemade soup and bread .... it seems to be that type of weather:)

  9. That is funny that a baby's favorite meal is lentil stew.

  10. We had homemade spaghetti sauce & noodles here!

  11. aww..hope she feels better soon!

  12. Might have to try that recipe, and I love your tip for saving time by buying vegetable broth......but I have to laugh, because when I'm pressed for time, I don't make recipes with more than 5 ingredients. I wouldn't even attempt this one if I were pressed for time!
Your blog and family and you are gorgeous. Keep up the good work!

  13. I hope she's feeling all better soon! When I was pregnant with Ivy ALL I could keep down was my Mother in law's lentil soup! She makes it super brothy, like a puree!

  14. Making this tonight! :) It smells heavenly already! :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to share. I love hearing from you.

P.S. I'm sorry for the word verification step, but oh, my. I'm getting lots of spam.
